The Buchanan Valley Volunteer Fire Department has grown in leaps and bounds since being founded in 1979. The First Meetings were held in a garage until legal battles were overcome and the Fire Station was constructed in 1985 on land donated to the Fire Department. The first emergency call was answered in the spring of 1985. The first apparatus and equipment was purchased by Members or Donated by neighboring Departments. Over the short history we have grown into one of the progressive departments in the County. Highlights were starting a Medical Assist Team in 1989, purchasing our first new piece of apparatus in 1992 (Engine 27-1), first custom specked apparatus in 2000 (SU 27), and completing our 9500 square foot Activities room.
Currently under the leadership of Chief Michael Spielman. Buchanan Valley Currently Operates a 1992 International / E-ONE Engine, a 1991 Pierce Arrow Engine-Tanker, a 2000 Ford F550 / SWAB Special Unit, and a 1975 Dodge 4x4 Brush truck. Buchanan Valley is located at 1180 Buchanan Valley Road in Orrtanna. More information can be found on there website at http://www.buchananvalleyfd.org/
