The Fairfield Community Fire Company was established in
March of 1921. In July of 1999 The Fairfield Fire and EMS was created as the
result of a merger between the Fairfield Community Fire Company, and the
Fairfield AmVets Community Ambulance Service. The Fairfield Fire & EMS is
located 8 miles west of Gettysburg. The Fairfield Fire & EMS protects the
Fairfield, and Carroll Valley Boroughs, the Hamiltonban, Liberty, and Highland Townships, and the surrounding
areas including Ski Liberty. The Fairfield Fire & EMS responds to approximately
180 Fire and Rescue calls per year, and 670 Medical Calls. In 2001, The
Fairfield Fire & EMS did a major building renovation including additional
apparatus bays, a new community hall, kitchen, a gear wash room, EMS bunk room,
and more office space. The Fairfield Fire & EMS, along with the Fountaindale
Fire Company were the host of the 2004 ACVESA Convention, held at the Adams
County Emergency Services Training Facility. The Fairfield Fire and EMS has
taken a proactive approach to life safety in there coverage area and beyond by
providing testimony and professional recommendations into the addition of
residential sprinkler code into town ordinances. Carroll Valley was the first in
this area to adopt this new code. The Fairfield Fire & EMS is currently in the
final design phase of a new brush truck.
Led by Chief Bill Jacobs, The Fairfield Fire & EMS currently operates a KME Predator Engine, a Seagrave Engine-Rescue, a International 1500 gallon Tanker, a Chevy Brush truck, a Ford F-450 Horton BLS Ambulance, and a Ford F-450 Pl Custom BLS Ambulance. In 2005 after the purchase of the new engine 2-1, The Fairfield Fire & EMS donated the old engine 2-1 to the Adams County Emergency Services Training Facility to be used during training activities. The Fairfield Fire & EMS is located at 106 Steelman Street in Fairfield, PA. More information can be found at: http://www.fairfieldfire-ems.org/index.html
