The Gettysburg Fire Department was established in 1808, and is located historic Gettysburg. The Gettysburg Fire Department protects the Gettysburg Borough, the Cumberland, Straban, Mt Joy, Mt Pleasant, Butler, Highland Townships, and the surrounding areas including 90% of the Gettysburg Military Park. The Gettysburg Fire Department responds to approximately 600 Fire and Rescue calls per year, and 2100 Medical Calls. The Gettysburg Fire Department is celebrating 200 years in 2008. In January of 2007 Gettysburg's 30 year old Truck 1, a 1977 Seagrave 100' Ladder truck was placed out of service due to hydraulic issues. On January 10, 2007 the department voted to purchase a new 100' ladder truck from Seagrave, and should be in service in early 2008. The Gettysburg Fire Department will be the host of both the 2008 ACVESA, and the Pennsylvania State Fire Conventions. On December 6, 2007 the Gettysburg Fire Department was recognized by the Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioners Office as a 75% participating department in the volunteer certification program. The Barlow Fire company donated they're former Squad 22, to the Gettysburg Fire Department, and is now in service as Traffic 1 used by the Gettysburg fire police.
Led by 2008 Chief Ken Kime, The Gettysburg Fire Department currently operates a Sutphen Engine, a Sutphen Rescue-Engine, a Smeal Quint, a Seagrave Truck, a Ford Traffic Unit, a Ford F350 Service Truck, 2 Ford F-450 Horton BLS Ambulances, and a Mack Reserve Engine. The Gettysburg Fire Department has been a great supporter of ACVESA. Currently Gettysburg's Chief Ken Kime serves as the ACVESA President. The Gettysburg Fire Department is located at 35 N.
