Originally established under the name Coronary 46 on November 15, 1969, then later renamed to Medic 46 on July 16, 1986. Medic 46 is stationed at the emergency department of the Hanover Hospital. In 2007, Medic 46 in conjunction with the Penn Township Emergency Services placed in service a ALS transport vehicle stationed at the Hanover Fire Department's Wirt Part Station. This unit is known as MICU 49. 12 Full time, and 13 Part time paramedics, and Pre-Hospital RN's work under the medical direction of Medic 46 medical director Dr. Michael Denney. Medic 46 responds to advanced medical emergencies in York, and Eastern Adams County. Medic 46 responds to approximately 3600 calls per year. Medic 46 participates in events such as Kids Fairs, Career Fairs, Multiphasic Blood Draws, Hispanic Fest, American Heart Association Heart Walk, Parades, Area schools Prom Promise, and Driving under the influence and careless driving events.
Led by ALS Coordinator Michael Smith, Medic 46 currently operates a 2005 Ford Excursion (white), a 2003 Ford Excursion (white), a 2003 Ford Excursion (black), and MICU 49 is a 2007 Ford F350 Horton. Medic 46 also operates 2 bicycles, a 24 foot disaster trailer, and a 6x6 John Deere Gator. Medic 46 is located at the Hanover Hospital at 300 Highland Ave in Hanover, PA.
