Title: Exterior Firefighter
Location: Adams County Emergency Services Training Facility
Description: This course is designed to introduce new firefighters to exterior fireground operation including building construction, ladders, communications, protective systems/sprinklers, forcible entry, and fire prevention. THIS IS THE THIRD OF FOUR COURSES IN THE CURRICULUM.

Prerequisites: FIREGROUND SUPPORT Students must be 16 years of age by the start of class. (See note below)
Minimum Age Requirement: 16 on or before the first day of class
Notes: Any student participating which is under the age of 18 and attending school must have a copy of the school's working papers attached to the registration form to be accepted. If the working papers are not attached, the registration form will be returned.
Student Needs: Pen/Pencil, Notebook; Delmar Student Manual and Workbook (Pa. Edition) (Must remain in possession of the student throughout the entire four courses in the curriculum); helmet, gloves turnout coat, turnout pants, boots, protective hood and protective eyewear (safety glasses or goggles).
Student Dress: All clothing shall be neat, clean, in good repair, presentable, and represent the department that the individual is representing. Participants are to report in clothing suitable for hands-on training.
Class Length: 42 Hours

What Does Training Do For You?

I recently had one of those "back step meetings" with several other firefighters and the discussion led to the topic of training and what we should be doing for monthly training. As many of you know, I have a very passionate approach when it comes to training. I just sat and listened to see where the conversation led. I heard several different views, everything from "we need to be doing more of the fun stuff," to "we did that enough in essentials class," and my favorite "I do that at work, no need to do it here". After pondering this for several evenings I came to several conclusions worth noting.
