Title: Rapid Intervention Team Awareness
Location: Adams County Emergency Services Training Facility
Description: This program is designed to prepare fire department personnel for implementation of a stand-by rescue team at structure fires and certain other incidents. Information is provided from existing fire departments utilizing the concept successfully. Topics covered include: Definitions and history of rapid intervention teams, case studies, firefighter death statistics and causes, applicable NFPA and OSHA standards related to RIT, implementation recommendations, and demonstration of firefighter rescue techniques.

Prerequisites: Introduction to the Fire Service (ELIS) Students must be 16 years of age by the start of class.
Minimum Age Requirement: 16 on or before the first day of class
Student Needs: Pen/pencil, and notebook.
Student Dress: All clothing shall be neat, clean, in good repair, presentable, and represent the department that the individual is representing. Participants are to report in clothing suitable for hands-on training.
Class Length: 4 Hours
Class Limits: 15 - 24

What Does Training Do For You?

I recently had one of those "back step meetings" with several other firefighters and the discussion led to the topic of training and what we should be doing for monthly training. As many of you know, I have a very passionate approach when it comes to training. I just sat and listened to see where the conversation led. I heard several different views, everything from "we need to be doing more of the fun stuff," to "we did that enough in essentials class," and my favorite "I do that at work, no need to do it here". After pondering this for several evenings I came to several conclusions worth noting.
