Gettysburg Times - MONDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2000 Volunteer group swears in new officers At their second meeting as a single entity, officers of the Adams County Volunteer Emergency Services Association were sworn in Thursday night by Judge Robert G. Bigham at the Fairfield Fire Hall. The ACVESA incorporates the former membership and functions of the Fire Chief, Firefighter and E.M.S. associations, which were all dissolved Oct. 5. The purpose of the new association, according to President Les Morton, is to increase the efficiency and influence of Adams County's emergency service associations. It will also allow the 3,800-member organization to speak with a single voice in terms of detailing their needs to county government, according to Morton. One of the main pieces of business discussed were the plans for the new county emergency services training facility to be built on a 10-acre plot on Granite Station Road in Straban Township. The training center, which will most likely be built and operated under a joint agreement with the county, is still in the early planning stages, according to John Lawver, who heads the committee for the new facility. After a presentation of several architect's sketches for the facility, Lawver asked for a resolution from the membership. "We have to let the county commissioners know we're committed to this," Lawver said. The motion to send a letter to the county commissioners that the ACVESA backs the preliminary plans for the training facility was passed by a unanimous vote of all 21 companies present.
