History

The Greenmount Fire Company was organized Sept. 26, 1934 at McCudy’s school house. The present four acre site was purchased in 1950 where a 40’ x 60’ building was erected. In 1957 the present dining hall and kitchen was added to the east side of the original building, A larger apparatuses bay was added in 1975 to the west side of the original building to house our two engines. In 1973 the members refurbished their first piece of equipment which is a 1901 Boyer hand drawn apparatus, that was outdated by a 1922 chain driven American LaFrance engine. The American LaFrance was taken out of service when engine (#231) arrived in 1955 In July of 1975. The company painted the1955 Ford American engine (#231) lime yellow, which became the first lime yellow fire truck in Adams County. A lime yellow Ford Seagraves engine (#232) was also put in service on May 10, 1977. In 1991 the company purchased a Ford L8000 truck and with the help of Allsafe Fire Equipment builds themselves the current ET23. Brush 23 which is a 1993 Ford F350 was added to the company in 1993 becoming the first brush truck the company has owned. In 1995 Service 23 which is a 1995 Ford F350 crew cab was placed into service to assist in transporting manpower to the scene and to training classes that are held outside of the company. Engine 23-2 (1998 KME) was placed into service the spring of 1998 which complete our current list apparatuses. The company started a junior membership program in 2000 which enable kids age 14-17 to join and assist the department with both emergency and non-emergency activities. In September of 2007 Duty 23 which is a 2002 Ford explorer was placed into service. The company serves various feeds and dining hall rentals as fund raising methods. We are currently in the process of doing an addition to the rear of our building, to accommodate our growth and to help meet the needs of the community. Our monthly meeting are held the second Tuesday of each month @ 19:30 hours at the hall. We are always looking for new individual to join the company and help out the community.
