Fire response
spurs gratitude for volunteers

The Evening Sun
I am writing to express thanks and appreciation for
the firefighters, EMTs, and fire police that responded to the fire at the
Bender's Lutheran Church rental house on April 17. The fire was called in at
9:48 p.m. What had started as a relatively small fire had quickly covered
the downstairs and spread to the upstairs. By 10 p.m., firefighters had the
blaze mostly under control and it was completely extinguished shortly there
after. The quick response of these dedicated volunteers kept the fire from
spreading to other church property including the church building across the
road. Watching them work demonstrated to all of us at the fire just how
important volunteer firefighters are to the community and how grateful all
of us should be that they volunteer. If you know a firefighter, thank him or
her today.
