It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the Alpha Fire Co. #1 has lost a dedicated member of 47 years.

Michael J. Sneeringer, Past Chief of 24 years, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2010. His dedication and service to the fire company, the community and ACVESA will be sincerely missed and remembered. Funeral arrangements are currently being made and information will be provided at a later time. Alpha Fire Co. #1 would like to express its sincere thanks for the outpouring of generosity from everyone in the county and its neighboring fire companies.

Early this year, two volunteer firefighters in their 80s died in the line-of-duty. Their deaths should start a discussion that many firefighters and fire chiefs find difficult to have in a calm and professional manner: Should a volunteer firefighter retire, and should there be a mandatory retirement age for volunteers?
